How to get a Sim card for the first time in Uganda, Sim Card Uganda - 28 April
In this post, we'll show you how to get your first Sim card in Uganda.
To access internet services on smartphones, SMS services, and calling services, a sim card is required. Getting a sim card in Uganda is no longer as simple as purchasing one. All you had to do was put it inside your phone and start using it right away. That was all there was to it. However, the process now necessitates a few registration procedures that, as you will see, aren't too onerous.
How do I get a Sim card for the first time in Uganda
One thing to keep in mind is that everyone who obtains a sim card has their information entered into a database. You may wonder what database I'm referring to. Mobile service providers are collaborating with the NIRA (National Identification Registration Authority) to collect and store data on Ugandans who use SIM cards.
What types of data are stored in the database? It contains your name, address, the phone number that will be assigned to you later, your fingerprint, and so on. So, how do you get a Sim card in Uganda?
First of all, getting a sim card is easy. All you have to do is to choose from one of the service providers that currently exist in Uganda:
a) MTN
b) Airtel
c) Lycamobile etc.
This means you have to go to an authorized agent or a service center to get a Sim card.
Secondly, you will be asked if you have a National ID. (Please, carry one with you before going, and it should be yours)
In case you do not have a National ID, you can use your passport (that is if you are a foreigner)
Thirdly, you will be given a form to fill and your fingerprint is taken to confirm your identity in the system.
Fourthly, your photo or picture will be taken and then you will be given a Sim card. That will be your Sim card to use from then onwards. You will be told to wait an hour or two before placing it into your phone.
That is how to get a Sim card for the first time in Uganda.
